Description

An original 1972 Led Zeppelin IV. These transitional copies come literally a few months after the last Red & Plum copies. Matrix A2/B2. They're still referring to "Misty Mountain Hop" as 'Mountain Top'...Note how all the text remains in the southern sector of the labels - and there's no sign of the Warners logo [strictly '72]. The audio cut on these early copies is superb, to say the least, and will cost you a lot less than an Ex+ Red&Plum copy from just a few short months earlier. In fact, I'd argue that buying a red&plum copy will almost never yield playback as good as found on this copy [for 90%+ of all R&P copies]. Also included is the original lyric inner [with Keith Morris credit, and no mention of Gothic P Finishers] and the original cover. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In beautiful condition and has only seen very light use. A couple of lightest marks - nothing remotely close to being troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are very very quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Very hard to find fault here. Yes, the big upbeat tracks are not too difficult to find playing great..but what about those acoustic numbers? It's these tracks that separate the good copies from something absolutely top-level. Some very very sweet audio rolling off this early copy. Those big guitar lead tracks play with tremendous energy and poise - basically superb. The low-key tracks play with perfectly quiet background, and this is not an easy find. When you get a really quiet copy you can crank it up loud and nothing interferes. You're going to hear all that acoustic wizardry in full-effect..you're going to get the vocal echos with perfect clarity, and every little rustle in the background perfectly rendered. You might detect a couple of isolated crackles in a couple of momentary spots per side. But even the perennial crowd pleaser STAIRWAY.. is nigh on perfect. I'd like to think many original copies play like this .. but we all know that, unfortunately, that's not the case. "California"..might well be the trickiest of all tracks on IV. And this copy deals it out perfectly..possibly the best I've witnessed...which is certainly an accolade....FINAL UPGRADE..par excellence.
Cover (Ex) Again, most certainly a cut above the standard copy that tends to surface. Lovely clean and flat surfaces - nothing noticeable in terms of wear or marks. The interior is immaculate - it very rarely looks this good. The spine is really nice with only very lightest wear. Openings are still sharp and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A bit of a corker and one you would really struggle to better.
Inner (Ex/Ex+) Amazing condition..struggling to make out a single split, very little wear at all. Very clean surfaces and it looks sensational. Interestingly, at this point, they'd reinstated the 'Keith Morris' credit on the inner sleeve - just like the very earliest copies at 1st release.
