Swansong 1975
A fascinating first pressing of Led Zeppelin’s 6th album.
When photographing this my eye was caught by a label stuck inside the sleeve. It is a record shop label and dates this copy to March 1975. This record was released in February 1975 so some pleasing proof, alongside the more usual identifiers, that this is a very early copy.
The outer sleeve here is Very Good+. Some overall handling and storage wear but it retains a sound vibrancy with clear and undamaged die cut windows and for the most part, a readable spine. Has the King’s Road address to the rear.
The wraparound insert is the first issue variant with one fold and a satin back. (Later corrected to a two fold version to more easily contain the two records and their sleeves.)
The inners with correct first issue codes are both in Excellent order.
The vinyls have some surface marks but retain a pleasing sheen and play really well with little interference. The matrix codes are A1 B5 C1 D1 and there are no WEA logos, further proof - if needed - that this is a’75 copy!
Included with this copy is an article from a May 1975 edition of Melody Maker about the band’s early years. A fascinating read presented without the 50 years+ hindsight we now have.
Overall a great first pressing with some intriguing extras!
