Note to Buyers and Collectors about the authenticity of this record as a 1st pressing:
1. ST-SS-753309-BB through ST-SS-753312-BB (Sides One, Two, Three and Four): These are the matrix prefix codes for each side of the album. "ST" indicates a stereo Atlantic/Swan Song release, "SS" stands for Swan Song, "75" represents the year the master tape was created (1975), and "3309 through 3312" are the specific tape track codes for Side One, Two, Three and Four. The "-BB" suffix is a very early matrix cut indicating an original 1975 first pressing.
2. (MR) (Sides One, Two, Three and Four): The stamped "MR" inside a circle identifies Monarch Record Mfg. Co. as the pressing plant.
3. △19707(3) (Side One). △19707-X (3) (Side Two), △19708 (8) (Side Three), and △19708-X (8) (Side Four): The delta symbol (△) followed by a 5-digit number is the proprietary tracking numbers used by Monarch. The number 19707 (Sides One and Two) and 19708 (Sides Three and Four) corresponds to Monarch's mastering log from February 1975, the exact month the album was released. The -X was used to denote the second side of a record, hence, Side Two and Four have this designation.
4. "(3)" (Side One and Two) and “(8)” (Side Three and Four) indicates the specific plating/stamper number utilized.
5. AT: confirms the record was mastered at Atlantic Studios in New York.
6. IS: This is the signature etching of Dennis King, one of Atlantic’s main mastering engineers during the mid-to-late 1970s.
7. PR: This stands for Philips Recording Company, meaning the metal parts/stampers used to press the vinyl at Monarch were originally processed or supplied by the Philips plant in Richmond, Indiana.
8. Labels: Lack of Warner Communications logo (a "W" inside a circle) confirms a true US first pressing of this record. Later pressings and reissues from late 1975 onward added a small "W" logo at the end of the text on both the cover and the center label rim.
9. "MO" (for Monarch) on all four labels: confirms the record was pressed at Monarch Record Mfg. Co.
10. Outer Jacket: has the original die-cut sleeve and on the back appears: Swan Song Inc. 444 Madison Avenue, N.Y., N.Y. 10022, Distributed by Atlantic Recording Corporation, 75 Rockefeller Plaza, N.Y., N.Y. 10019 confirming the first US pressing.
11. F.T.: This stands for Fidelatone, an additional processing indicator used during the mastering and metal plating stage. Audiophiles frequently seek out original Monarch pressings with the "F.T." etching on Sides 2 and 3, noting that these specific master cuts offer incredible clarity, punch, low-end balance and superior dynamics compared to other 1975 regional variations. This confirms that this record was mastered and plated under the exact same premium production pipeline at the facility.
12. This record is considered by many audiophiles the best-sounding version of Physical Graffiti ever pressed. Original Monarch pressings are uniquely famous because Monarch used a "West Coast style" proprietary vinyl formulation and distinct plating techniques.
This sale is for the one (1) LP vinyl double album as shown in the pictures.
