I would not normally list a record in this condition, unless the album is so scarce as to merit being auctioned. This of course is the very first Led Zep album in the all famous "TURQUOISE" lettering. The vinyl of course has the SUPERHYPE labels. this is only the second time ever that I have come across this very first album. Even the plum/red with the orange lettering, a second press, arouses widespread interest among collectors around the world nowadays.

Although this album is not in mint or excellent condition, it is still the rarest Led Zep collecible ever!!!

The sleeve:

Front and back picture fully intact. Creasing to the front and back, most notably near the opening (see close-up picture). Back sleeve damage to the edges near the spine and top. General creases near the opening and corners with undelaminate lift. The TURQUOISE lettering is fully intact!!! This album has been enjoyed!!! Front sleeve with grey stripe at the bottom has some damage near the bottom left corner. Spine rubbed. Lettering legible apart from the "l" and "a" of Atlantic. Inside sleeve has the name of one previous owner in biro.

The vinyl:

VG+. the album plays throughout without any jumps or skips although there is crackle and hiss in places. Altogether far better than I expected and this just shows that the quality of these first presses was just phenomenal. Visually there are hairlines on both sides, more prominently on side one over the track "You shook me". I thoroughly enjoyed "Communication Breakdown" and my all time Zep favourite "Dazed and Confused", simply outstanding!!!

In Ex+ condition. Ballpoint initials of the owner just underneath Led Zeppelin.

This album is not in MINT or NM or even EX condition.So if you are looking for the ultimate museum piece, this won't be the one for you.That would set you back by as much as the original production price of the album which was between £1500 and £2000. As a collector's piece this is fanatastic though as you will not come across it very often at all. Year by year the number of auction entries for this album has decreased, so grab your chance to own this mementous FIRST EVER ZEP ALBUM.

Led Zeppelin’s first groundbreaking album, catalogue No. 588171 on the Atlantic Red/Plum label. A great example of this RARE original 1969 UK EARLIEST first pressing, with the TURQUOISE LETTERED sleeve and the SUPERHYPE publishing credits. This UK first pressing has a tremendous power and presence that surges out of the speakers and hits you like the Hammer Of The Gods !! Amazing !! The vinyl has a deep sheen to it although there are hairlines. There is a smattering of surface noise and some clicks in some of the quieter parts of ‘Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You’ and the beginning of ‘Your Time Is Gonna Come’. There are a few clicks here and there. Apart from that it plays beautifully, the sonic assault of ‘Communication Breakdown’, the sheer awesome power of ‘Dazed And Confused’, and the sometimes overlooked 8 minute epic ‘How Many More Times’, come pounding out at you !!
