Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome LP from Amadeo (AVRS 6242, Austrian pressing, black/gold label – ED1, heavy vinyl, stereo, laminated jacket) features what were then fairly new and little-known contemporary works for violin and orchestra, here played by violinist Ulrich Lehmann, in which he is accompanied by conductor Edmond de Stoutz and the Zurich Kammerorchester.

Bohuslav Martinu

Concerto da Camera

23:45

A1

–  Moderato poco allegro

A2

–  Adagio

A3

–  Poco allegro

Karl Amadeus Hartmann

Concerto Funebre für Solovioline und Streichorchester

20:02

B1

–  Introduction (Largo)

B2

–  Adagio

B3

–  Allegro di molto

B4

–  Choral (Langsamer Marsch)

Both works were recorded circa 1959 and sound absolutely splendid here. The performances are first rate, haunting and atmospheric, and linger in the memory long after the music has stopped.

There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Lothar Knessl, printed in German and French. The striking cover photo of Lehmann is credited to Photokeusen, Bern.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a 2” seamsplit to the spine, as well as minor bumping at corners and creasing. However, there are no other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP is VERY GOOD-. There is a scratch to the Hartmann that causes a tic for @ 2 minutes, and there is light surface noise. Otherwise, playback is quite fine. If you must have a flawless or NM copy, do not buy this LP. Overall, this is decent collector's copy.
