This is a Presswell Pressing and features a black vinyl record with a stereo speed of 33 RPM. The vinyl is graded very good plus (VG+), as is the Gatefold LP cover sleeve. Please review the detailed photos included in this listing. The vinyl is borderline (EX) save for some occasional ticks & pops.
From Wikipedia… AllMusic gives the album 4½ stars, stating "This groundbreaking jazz synthesizer record is really unlike any other Les McCann ever made. Aside from a three-man percussion section and electric bassist Jimmy Rowser, Layers is entirely electronic, one of the first jazz albums with such an emphasis. ...this music is truly forward-looking and ahead of its time".
The song "Sometimes I Cry" has been sampled in several other songs, most notably in Slick Rick's "Behind Bars" and its drum beat in Massive Attack's "Teardrop" and "Bullet Boy".
The album showcases McCann's talent as a composer and pianist, with a unique blend of jazz funk and fusion. This rare gem is a must-have for any jazz enthusiast and a valuable addition to any vinyl collection.
I played both sides of this LP completely through on my audio-technica AT-LP60XBT turntable without issues. This record plays beautifully and sounds great!
