Les Scarabées were a short-lived Quebec folk-rock-r&b and pop-psych duo formed by Martine Gauthier (aka Martine Bee) and Raymonde Braid (aka Liz Brady, aka Liza, born Raymonde Fleurat in Egypt). Under the stage name Liz Brady, the popular International 60's Yé-Ye girl recorded a dozen tracks in France (1965-67) before settling in Quebec (Canada) where (using the stage name "Liza") she formed Les Scarabees with Martine in 1968. The duo released just 7 singles between 1969 and 1972, culminating in their sole Long Play (on RCA in 1972) before calling it quits.
* Although several Web articles state that the two were sisters, this is not accurate (the confusion likely originates with the rare Canadian LP that credits the songwriting to "Liza & Martine Gautier".....more accurately, it should say "Liza (Brady)" ...and... "Martine Gautier").
This, the girls' very first single, is a standout adaptation of the classic (and coveted) R&B gem "Nothing But a Heartache" by the Amercian (U.K.-based) girl-group The Flirtations.
Long out-of-print, the track has never been re-issued, and it's value in collectors' circles has been steadily climbing.
