LETIERES LEITE - O ENIGMA LEXEU - TSR-086
O Enigma Lexeu is one of the great works led by maestro Letieres Leite. One of Brazil’s most important and celebrated musicians, composers and arrangers, Letieres recorded and released the album through Rocinante, alongside his Quintet, featuring Ldson Galter on bass, Luizinho do Jêje on percussion, Marcelo Galter on keyboards and Tito Oliveira on drums. The record is the February title from the Clube Três Selos Rocinante.
Sylvio Fraga, who co-directed the project with Letieres, wrote:
“O Enigma Lexeu is the only child of this quintet, which had been playing together for more than 15 years, driven by a spirit of adventure. The album, released digitally in 2019, quickly became a classic, revered not only by musicians — some of its pieces have already become standards — but also by a wider audience. The complexity of the sound is immediately embraced by the body. Letieres would have been very happy to hold this LP in his hands.”
This album, the first that Rocinante recorded in its own studio in 2018, was released in 2019. It is a landmark in the careers of the five musicians involved, achieving a perfect fusion between the freedom of jazz and Afro-Bahian rhythmic structures. Born from deep investigations into the grooves and claves that form a fundamental part of the richness of these traditions, O Enigma Lexeu is a beautiful example of what Letieres called the Universo Percussivo Baiano.
Letieres Leite passed away in 2021. His wish to see O Enigma Lexeu released on LP has now been fulfilled with this edition. This release, exclusive to the Clube Três Selos Rocinante, contains tracks carefully adapted to fit the vinyl format.
An essential collector’s item, the record also features a new cover with photography by João Atala. This is a sealed LP pressed on 140g ivory vinyl, with a single sleeve, back-cover text by Sylvio Fraga, a poster, photograph, insert with texts by Marcelo Galter, and stickers.
