Originally released in 2001, They Threw Us In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top is the promising debut album from Brooklyn's stylistically ambitious Liars. Accentuating a post-punk aesthetic with synths, drum machines, catchy gang vocals and boundless energy, the Steve Revitte (Beastie Boys, Lee "Scratch" Perry) produced 9-song effort was not only the band's lone full-length offering to feature the original four-piece line-up, but it was also the last to be grouped into a blossoming NY dance-punk scene which the band resented thus the title. Distinct in the Liars' catalog, yet all the better for it, the album is highlighted by the churning cuts "Mr. You're on Fire Mr." and "We Live NE of Compton" along with the sprawling 30-minute closer "This Dust Makes That Mud."
