Her extraordinary clarion voice enabled her to distinguish herself as an interpreter of other people’s songs in an era that prized the singer/songwriter. Whether she sang country, straight ahead pop, fifties rockers, or even soul, the results were contagious. This DCC Audiophile LP brings out the essentials of Ronstadt’s Golden Age like you’ve never heard before.

This eclectic collection circa ‘76 through ‘80 (recorded at The Sound Factory and Record One in Los Angeles, California) underscores a newfound Rock n Roll assertiveness in the rootsy Rock Diva as she gleefully covers material like Chuck Berry’s “Back In The USA”, and the Stones “Tumblin’ Dice”. In fact, one can hear the not so distant rumbles of the punk rock revolution as Ronstadt gives Debra Harry a run for her money on “How Do I Make You?”.

In another context, one also hears the natural Mexicali strains emerging on her beautifully realized version of Roy Orbison’s “Blue Bayou”-- a decade before the two groundbreaking collections of Mexican songs dedicated to her father. Continuing her established practice of introducing the best in singer/songwriters, we have heard definitive takes on Warren Zevon’s “Poor, Poor Pitiful Me” and Karla Bonoff’s haunting “Someone To Lay Down Beside Me.”
