Description
Lionel Bart, the late composer responsible for the Oliver musical was, in 1968, shall we say enjoying various substances. It must have been quite strong stuff because this sort-of-concept-LP is extremely odd-to say the least-having said that I love it and lets face no matter how off his face LB was he was clear headed enough to get a great lineup of some of the best library musicians from the KPM era plus Madeline Bell, Danny Thompson, John Cameron, Harold McNair etc. I would descibe the music as Mutant Musical-and no, I don't really know what that means-but you'll know what it feels like when you listen to this LP AND there's a superb loungecore funk tune with really big KPM-style beats (and a killer opening break) and fabulous horn work on 'May a man be merry?'
This is first issue STEREO Gatefold Deram label issue-easily established because the first copies had a mono copy COVER with a DERAM company sticker on the back cover indicating Stereo
This copy was signed in 1970 and as for the dedication God only knows what it means but considering what life was like for him in this period its a miracle he could hold a pen. The record is in wonderful condition -hardly touched as is the cover part from light edge scuffs
