Description
Lionel Hampton and His Orchestra play "Bopology" (on "How High the Moon" changes) and "Hampology" on Jazz Society AA544. The former is a small-group performance on which Wes Montgomery is audible throughout and gets to solo for all of four bars. The full band, including trumpeter Leo "The Whistler" Shepherd, plays on the flip side.
Wendell Culley, Leo Shepherd, Walter Williams, Ed Mullens (tp); Lester Bass, Al Grey, Alfred "Chippy" Outcalt, Jimmy Wormick (tb); Johnny Board, Bobby Plater (as); Johnny Sparrow, Billy Williams, Gene Morris (ts); Ben Kynard (bar); Lionel Hampton (vib, p); France Gadison (p); Wes Montgomery (g)' Roy Johnson (b)' Earl Walker (d). Recorded in New York in Autumn 1949. It sounds to me like a Royal Roost broadcast. This limited edition record (one of 350 copies) is the original issue of these performances.
This record is in E condition, with a few storage marks that do not sound.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
