Description

The original 1964 Lipmann & Rau European programme for the American Folk Blues Festival 1964.

Dear Audience, the 'American Folk Blues Festival' is visiting Europe for the third time. What started 5 years ago with a Blues Party in Chicago and the request of its initiator Joachim E. Berendt: to present something like it in his SWF television series 'Jazz - heard and seen', has now become a permanent institution. While the first tour in 1962 was intended only as a basic introduction to the vast field of authentic Blues, the 'American Folk Blues Festival' developed in the meantime into a well-balanced, thoroughly planned documentation of the best and historically most important artists that Blues as to offer ....'

This programme is written in English and German throughout, and features black and white photo's and biopics of the following stars:-

A Blues Analysis

Willie Dixon

Sunnyland Slim

Hubert Sumlin

Lightening Hopkins

John Henry Barbee

Sleepy John Estes

Hammie Nixon

Sugar Pie Desanto

Sonny Boy Williamson

Howlin' Wolf

Clifton James

CONDITION

Very good to Excellent: The only perceptible faults are as follow:-

There is a slight crumpling to the spine - the programme doesn't lie quite flat. That said, it's probably nothing a little careful compression wouldn't cure.

There's a 3cm lamination wrinkle to the right of the front cover, slight scuffing to the top and bottom of the spine, and a small crease to the bottom right hand corner.

Apart from these minor problems, the brochure remains good-looking, with high cover gloss, and unmarked pages. The inner pages are produced from high quality gloss paper, and have consequently yellowed very little over time.

If you're a fan of the blues, it might be interested to note that eight out of the eleven artists featured had never appeared outside of the States before.

This programme has been in a private collection since 1964 and has not passed hands since. If you'd like to know anything further, please don't hesitate to email me. In the meantime, many thanks for looking.
