Description
This early 1956 compilation was an opportunity for Little Walter fans to get a copy of his famous hit in the US Singles Chart "My Babe" with an attractive colour sleeve. “My Babe” was written by Willie Dixon and covered by rock ‘n roller Ricky Nelson in 1958. This original was recorded at Universal Recorders in January 1955, where most Chess and Checker sessions were held until the company built its own studio in late 1956. Little Walter is on vocals/harmonica & supported by his “Jukes”: Robert Lockwood Jr & Leonard Caston - guitars, Willie Dixon - double bass, & Fred Below - drums. This original release was not well received in UK with comparatively few copies of this EP being sold at the time. So it is arguably the most collectable of Little Walter’s UK-issued records.
LITTLE WALTER “LITTLE WALTER & HIS JUKES” EP
London RE-U 1061
Side One: My Babe / Thunder Bird
Side Two: I Got To Go / Roller Coaster
UK pressing (All tracks recorded Chicago 1955).
Condition:
REFURBISHED SLEEVE / RECORD VG+
This 7 inch 45 RPM EP record is the original UK release. There is no American Chess equivalent. Its condition shows that previous owner[s] took care of it over the ensuing 60 years. The record surfaces retain most of their original vinyl shine with some wear that does not spoil the listening experience. There are 2 slight rub marks on the Side 1 label and faint writing “J DAWSON” on both sides. The sleeve has been refurbished with a re-laminated front. The back is yellowed with age and has no lamination [see pictures]. Hence the low start.
