Lou Bond – ‘You Shake Me Up’ / ‘Don’t Start New Crying’ – Brainstorm 124 (US)
This swinging R&B dancer arranged by “Tom Tom” Washington takes us back to 1967 Chicago. Bond, who at one time was staff writer for Chess Records, moved to Memphis in 1971 at the suggestion of his friend Lee Sain and cut a legendary album for Stax’s We Produce subsidiary a couple of years later. Both tunes on his Brainstorm single, interestingly, were composed by Honey East, the author of Cicero Blake’s ‘Loving You Woman Is Everything’ and ‘Shing-A-Ling’ (Brainstorm 123, the single preceding this one). ‘You Shake Me Up’ is a top tune and this is a top copy, don’t miss it!
Condition: Excellent (please listen to the clips). Clean labels with only faint traces of wear (please see scans).
