Description

NOTE: I sold this here as mint and the box was slightly damaged in shipping.  See photos of the 3.5 inch split in the box.  If you were to color it in with a black marker you'd never know.  Because of this issue I'm significantly lowering the price so now is a time to get a great deal on an otherwise MINT and possibly unplayed copy.
Free shipping!  Will be shipped in a more protective way this time.

Out of print 4 LP set.  This is from my personal collection and I don't recall ever playing it.  Would be MINT except for the 3.5 inch split in the box seam

The Louis Armstrong & The All Stars: Complete Newport 1956 & 1958 is a meticulously curated 4-LP box set released by Mosaic Records, capturing the full performances of Louis Armstrong and his All Stars at the Newport Jazz Festival on July 6, 1956, and July 6, 1958. This collection is part of Mosaic's esteemed limited-edition vinyl series (catalog #3007), with only 3,500 numbered copies produced, making it a prized item for collectors and jazz aficionados alike .

The recordings showcase Armstrong's dynamic stage presence and the evolving sound of his All Stars. The 1956 performance features the classic lineup, while the 1958 set introduces new members, including clarinetist Peanuts Hucko and drummer Danny Barcelona. Notably, the 1958 performance includes vibrant renditions of "Tiger Rag" and "High Society Calypso," some of which were featured in the iconic film Jazz on a Summer's Day.

Mosaic Records is renowned for its dedication to high-quality jazz reissues, often producing limited-edition box sets that become sought-after collectibles . This Armstrong set is no exception, offering audiophile-grade 180-gram vinyl pressings and comprehensive liner notes that provide context and insights into the performances.

While this box set is currently out of print, it occasionally appears on secondary markets such as eBay and specialized record retailers. For those interested in the music without the vinyl format, the performances are also available in Mosaic's 9-CD collection titled The Columbia and RCA Victor Live Recordings of Louis Armstrong and the All Stars (catalog #257).

In summary, this Mosaic Records release offers an invaluable glimpse into Louis Armstrong's live performances during a pivotal era in jazz history, capturing the energy and artistry that solidified his legacy.
