It all starts in typically shambolic fashion, Dave Brock (now 75!!) rambling and threatening The crowd with “quiet acoustic MUSICFORA 3 song mini set, is exactly what we get! And, remarkably, it works! coming On like ATheFirst 15 minsSounds like it should be played inA field somewhere, with everyone sat aroundOpenFIRE . A wonderful sense of community is evoked amid The acoustic guitars, tambourines and tree-hugging hippy dippyness.
And then we're off. The guitars are plugged in, The cosmic, spacey keyboard effects commence and we blast off into ATo Go'. Space Rock engulfs Us and TheHEAVY , man. The bass Sounds immense and AThe melee Hawkwind doing what only Hawkwind Can . Hopefully no One was booked ToThe RoundhouseThe nextDay 'cos this sounded like it was never goingTo end.
And, of course, it wouldn't be AHawkwind gigWithout some pretentious spoken word utopian sci-fi poetry. But fear not, we quickly return To TheThe likesof which hasn't been inVogue since 1971, replete withA guitar solo that lastsFOR several days. In many ways Hawkwind are our Grateful Dead - LongA faithful, 'follow them 'til they stop moving' fanbase. Brock is our Garcia, our CAPTAIN Trips.
'Have You Seen Them' takes UsTo nature, man, and offersUs “glimpsesofThe woodland child”…andA riff that's probably been goingOn since 1975. While One suspects Brock's TONGUEHIS cheekFORThe 9 minutes, 'Small FacesOn 'shrooms' whimsyof 'Vegan Lunch'.
And On it rambles, epic jams interspersed with brief, almost ambient, interludes, TheA way only thisbandCan . The 11 plus minutes of 'Synchronized BLUEA relentless pace, almost descending into chaos asThe guitars and bleeps battleFORThe upper hand. 'Into The Woods' boasts AHawkwind kicking, screaming, smoking and mumbling intoThe 21st Century.
