The Animals first album stormed to the top of the British Invasion scene right along with the Beatles, DC5, Stones & Yardbirds. "The Animals" was released in late summer 1964, the album introduced the States to the rough and gritty dirty R&B sound (with the emphasis on the "B" as in BEAT= that typified the group.
The raw power of Newcastle...The album featured the timeless legendary smash single "THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN" ...a great debut album. Eric Burdon's voice is fantastic and he handles these blues standards well. "The Story Of Bo Diddley" includes brief interludes zinging the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc. The quality of the rest of the album is on a par with "House Of The Rising Sun", which was the single released at the same time of this album. Standout tracks are; "I've Been Around", "I'm Mad Again" and "I'm In Love Again".
