There is a certain something about the opening cries in “Exuma, The Obeah Man” followed by those hypnotic drums. That first guitar chord. Those cries of “OBEAH!” “NA-NANA NANA NA NA! NA-NANA NA NA NAAA!”. Makes the listener just want to play along and want to march and cry out to. You want to be in the middle of a forest chanting like a madman with mud on your face.
Carribean exotica from a remarkable musician known by his stage name Exuma. Exuma as a character throughout this album, is an Obeah man, a voodoo doctor who can raise the dead and who travels into the sky. This album has a few amazing stand out tracks (Exuma the Obeah Man, Dambala, You Don't Know What's Going On) that makes one almost always love listening to. Junkanoo is a field recording/piece of constructed sound, Elegy is not really anything one can figure out, and Mama Loi Papa Loi is a song about Zombies that is amusing. A very solid album, and a unique persona. Listening to Exuma makes you want to turn into one of these people...
Exuma, the Obeah Man 6:16 Dambala 5:34 Mama Loi, Papa Loi 4:32 B; Junkanoo 3:24 Seance in the Sixth Fret 7:14 You Don't Know What's Going On 3:27 The Vision 8:14
