Tyranny And Mutation is notoriously more «rock and roll» than the «mysterious heavy rock» of its pre­decessor. The production is clearer and much more in your face, as the guitar sound now brutally lashes you across it, rather than emerges from some distant dark enchanted forest. Eric Bloom relys more on the snarling, sneering posturing vocal attitudes of that era than the eerie, hushed, voodoo-drenched deliveries of their first LP. The tempos are faster, the riffage is briskier and, on the whole...this thing rips!

The second in BÖC's black and white era trilogy of terror, Tyranny and Mutation sheds their FIRST Lp's psychedelic direction for a more streamlined, hard edged set of tales from the dark side. Curiously revisiting "I'm on the Lamb (But I Ain't No Sheep)" with the frantic, bloodthirsty Mountie tribute "The Red and the Black," the album proceeds through the gothic doom of "Wings Wetted Down," torrid, runaway "Hot Rails to Hell" and Luciferian epic "7 Screaming Diz-Busters," and closes with an eerie ode to human fertilizer called "Mistress of the Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl)." BÖC hit their stride with Tyranny and Mutation, quickly establishing themselves as masters of their own merciless un-reality.
