Strawberry Alarm Clock
Strawberries Mean Love
\ UK - WIK 56
Very scarce, hard to find old 20+ year old British-only deluxe issue overviewing the fabulous breezy psychedelic sounds of The Strawberry Alarm Clock ... This sensational album contains not only all killer no filler highlights of the legendary bands career but also rare tracks that will lift you high on a cloud....The Strawberry Alarm Clock are in most quarters considered one-hit wonders having scaled the charts with the catchy bit of 1967 psychedelia "Incense and Peppermints." The hit became a kind of yoke around the neck of the band, pigeonholing them as a psychedelic pop infection. "Strawberries Mean Love" goes a long way in disproving this nonsense. "Strawberries Men Love" gathers the best parts of this sunny California psych band and weaves together a terrific array of memorable highlights. Besides "Incense" and the terrific psyched-out hit "Tomorrow" this anthology contains several other trippy tunes, namely "Sit With The Guru" and "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow." The real treats of the set, however, are the 8:26 rendition of "The World's On Fire" which contains heady lead guitar work by Ed King, "Love Me Again" and the title track both once again fueled by King's guitar work, tastefully trippy keyboards, and lovely vocal harmonies. This collection does a wonderful job of encapsulating the career of one of the more underrated and overlooked West Coast psychedic bands of the 1960s. Their combination of tastefully swirling guitars and vocal harmonies makes them a pleasure to give a listen to some 40-odd years down the road.
