Scarce, long long gone vinyl pressing from nearing 30 years ago of 1965 Lp + non-Lp 45 ...in M- top condition....
The USA garage band, the BARBARIANS, issued their only album in 1965, and while not having been the world's greatest rock & roll band -- at the time, they were the baddest, most outrageous dudes of their time, and perhaps the first USA garage punk band - ever.
Moulty, their drummer, with the menacing hook dangling at the end of his left arm and a snide expression, wore his hair longer than ANYBODY around. Their music was hard hitting, raw & primal, matching the groups primitive name. Blues rockers were a big influence and the group was aware at what the English bands were doing with the British Invasion. Bo Diddley sizzles with the fury of "THEM" ... "Memphis" has the big beat of The HOLLIES. "House of The rising Sun" is different but no less effective than the ANIMALS treatment, combined with a piercing effective blues guitar with tormented, desperate wailing bluesy vocal.
The Barbarians stared down controversy like an immobile gunfighter in a John Wayne movie. Mick Jagger and other rock stars of the time seemingly cowered at the fat, uptight squares who jabbed their fingers in the stars direction and bantered "Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl?" the Barbarians were tough enough to shove this back down their throats with their very own song "Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl" -- If the guy couldn't tell if the person was a boy or girl -- that's his problem!
