Description

In one of hip-hop’s sadder moments, Bay Area legend Mac Dre was gunned down in November 2004, bringing an end to an extremely prolific career as a regional rap star. By the time of his death, Mac Dre was more than a dozen albums deep, in a career that had spanned 15 years. It all started with a four-track 1989 EP, Young Black Brotha, released on Bay Area producer Khayree‘s record label, Strictly Business Records.

“Mac Dre is the Name” (AKA “Mac Dre is My Name”) had already been released as a Out Of Bounds 12? (presumably in 1989, if not a little earlier), whereas “Too Hard 4 The Radio” and “Young Black Brotha” made it onto Young Black Brotha, a 1993 proper LP with the same name, so this 1989 EP is pretty well represented in his later work. Young Black Brotha (the album) is Mac Dre‘s debut LP proper, since its previous four releases had consisted of three EPs and one very short album recorded over the phone whilst Dre did time for robbery.

Back to the EP that started it all though, its quality is what set Mac Dre mania into motion, propelling him into a pretty major star on the local Bay Area scene, thanks to the likes of tracks like “Too Hard 4 Radio” (which could be my favourite Mac Dre track ever). Clocking in at a mere 4-tracks long, each joint is little short of superb, with Mac Dre waxing lyrical about what’s really good in the Bay, backed up by piano-heavy and handclapping Khayree production.

Super RARE LP copy of Mac Dre's Young Black Brotha on Strictly Buisness Records. Have had this in my collection since i worked for Rock Bottom Records in Antioch Ca. and found a few of these in a box in the back room. This is the last copy i own. Record has been opened and listened to once. shrink wrap still on record. Both Lp and Sleeve are in Nm to Nm+ condition. There is a slight bit of wear on the lower right hand side of the cover. Please e mail me with any questions or if you would like to see a better picture. the glare and blur on the images is only the reflection of my flash and not the album artwork! Get this one while you can. A true legend in the hip hop community. This record keeps going up in value. shipping is $7.00 for the US....more for international buyers.
