singer-songwriter Madonna, released on October 25, 1994
by Maverick Records. Madonna collaborated with Dallas
Austin, Babyface, Dave Hall and Nellee Hooper, and decided
to move into a more R&B direction and a generally more
mainstream radio friendly sound. Madonna tried to soften her
image after her sexually explicit works during Erotica period.
The album was an international success, peaking at number
one in Australia and Brazil. In the United States, the album
debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and achieved
Gold status after six weeks. On November 21, 2005, the
Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it
Triple Platinum, recognizing three million shipments throughout
the United States. In 1995, the album received a Grammy Award
nomination for "Best Pop Vocal Album."
