Like a Prayer is a song by American singer Madonna from her 4th album of the same name released in 1989. The track heralded an artistic & personal approach to songwriting for Madonna, who believed she needed to cater more to her adult audience. Thematically the song speaks about a passionate young woman in love with God, who becomes the only male figure in her life. "Like a Prayer" is a pop rock song & incorporates gospel music. It features background vocals from a choir & also a rock guitar. The lyrics contain liturgical words, but they have dual meanings of sexual innuendo & religion. "Like a Prayer" was acclaimed by critics & a commercial success. It was her 7th #1 single on the USA Billboard Hot 100 & topped the singles charts in many countries, including Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, New Zealand & the UK. The song sold over 5 million copies & is 1 of the best-selling singles worldwide. Rolling Stone listed "Like a Prayer" among “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”.

Act of Contrition is song by American singer Madonna from her 4th album Like A Prayer (1989). It features Madonna reciting the Catholic prayer Act of Contrition, then the vocals deteriorate into a monologue in which Madonna grows obstreperous over being denied a restaurant reservation.
