A BEAUTIFUL COPY OF MAGNA CARTA'S TREMENDOUSLY ATMOSPHERIC, WARM AND INTIMATE LIVE LP AND A FINER ONE WOULD BE VERY HARD TO LOCATE INDEED
In Concert was recorded live in Amsterdam in 1971, and remains one of the most atmospheric concert recordings of its age.
A wonderful venue (the Concertgebouw), an appreciative audience, and a genuinely intimate selection of songs result in performances that cannot even be compared to their studio counterparts. They're not better, they're not worse, they're just delightfully different, spun with a spontaneity and warmth that truly place the listener stage center.
"Airport Song" opens the proceedings, of course, but the band was preaching to the converted that night -- every song is received as a conquering hero, and the band responds with equal generosity.
A playful "Banjo Man," a haunting "Seven O'Clock Hymn," an eerie "Ring of Stones" -- every track is a highlight, while the newly arrived Davey Johnstone, making his recorded debut with the band, shines so brightly that it's hard to believe he was still unknown at the time.
Track Listing:
SIDE 1: Airport Song / Time For The Leaving / The Boatman / Sea And Sand / Banjo
SIDE 2: Old John Parker / Seven O'Clock Hymn - Midwinter / Country Jam / Ring Of Stones
LABELS: SUPERB condition - CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO wear, NO writing and only a few light spindle traces. THE RECORD HAS SEEN LIGHT PLAY ONLY
VINYL Visual: The record lies perfectly flat on the turntable and both surfaces have their original DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY SHEEN. The surfaces are practically UNMARKED (light sleeve removal hairlines only which have NO audio consequence)
VINYL Audio: CRYSTAL CLEAR and VIBRANT audio. A BEAUTIFUL LP with TREMENDOUSLY ATMOSPHERIC SOUND. There are NO scratches, NO sticks, NO jumps, NO clicks/pops and NO surface noise. The album plays to an extremely high standard with SUPERB AUDIO CLARITY, NO groove-wear and NO distortion (its only ever seen light play) and must be very critically graded NEAR MINT for audio and NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use STRICT RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please refer to my feedback and 'about me' page)
SLEEVE: The original matte TOP LOADING gatefold cover is in EXCELLENT condition. CLEAN and FRESH with only a little wear (please see photos)
The VERTIGO SWIRL inner is CLEAN, BRIGHT and FRESH with NO splits to the edges and a just a small tear to the centre window (hardly noticeable). The LP is now housed - and will be posted in - a new inner to prevent any 'knifing' damage to the original during transit
