“The squirrel, warm beneath his bed of leaves/ cannot hear the wind that whips around the chimney pots”.

Well, this is just the kind of music I like; sparse, rich instrumentation with a seriously gorgeous melodic folk/rock mix of major and minor chords. A problem however, the twee metre on side one is right off the dial: grave, pompous diction for the quaintest sentiments imaginable, Christmas presents etc. This could’ve been a Sunday night church youth concert, which in 1970 would not have been very heavy. Dead set, it could be children’s music, and side two track one keeps serving it.

Then, a surprise: the last five tracks are just superb. It’s still twee, but manageably so. Beautiful folk/pop, lowing ‘cello, lilting flute, mingled acoustic guitars. “Give Me No Goodbyes” and “Ring of Stones” rock out, in a folk/pop sort of way, Rick Wakeman only gets a tiny cameo, but he pounds that parlour keyboard for all it’s worth, and his little interlude is just right for the song. The breezy, perfect “Airport Song” reminds just how good the old music was, it’s just five-star. Verdict: if this review attracts you, get the album.

(b)          The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)             The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-        Cover has a tiny, barely visible cutout hole in one of the corners

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine (nothing significant)

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2   (front side) and 1 (back side).
