NEWSAGENT'S DESCRIPTION

This listing is for a SEALED original 1973 U.S. pressing of Birds Of Fire, the second studio album by jazz-rock fusion group Mahavishnu Orchestra, released by Columbia Records (PC 31996). Led by guitarist John McLaughlin, the album pushed the explosive fusion of jazz improvisation, rock power, complex rhythms, and Indian-influenced musical ideas established on The Inner Mounting Flame even further. Birds Of Fire became an extraordinary crossover success, reaching No. 15 on the Billboard 200, and remains a cornerstone of the jazz-rock fusion canon.

This original U.S. LP features the classic Mahavishnu Orchestra lineup of John McLaughlin on guitar, Billy Cobham on drums, Jan Hammer on keyboards, Jerry Goodman on violin, and Rick Laird on bass. It was the second and final studio album recorded by the group's original lineup, with all compositions written by McLaughlin, including the title track, "One Word," "Celestial Terrestrial Commuters," and "Miles Beyond," dedicated to his former bandleader Miles Davis.
