Description
This is a very fine copy from a U.S. reissue (I'm guessing mid to late 1970s, or possibly early '80s, given the glossy jacket c/w the lack of a barcode on the back) of the debut LP by Mandrill, originally released in 1971. The group was centered around the three Wilson brothers, Panamanian immigrants who had grown up in Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy neighborhood. Their music was an adventurous fusion of Latin, funk, jazz, and rock, infused with a pan-African consciousness -- viz. the debut's five-part suite "Peace and Love (Amani Na Mapenzi)," the parenthetical phrase being the Swahili equivalent of the English, not to mention the primate they're named after, which is native to central Africa. They released several LPs during the '70s. The gatefold jacket is all but pristine -- M(-). The disc is clean with a little light scuffing, and plays with minimal surface noise (M-).
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
