MANOLO GAS--"A todo gas".Spanish POLYDOR, 55509, 1976. Record/Sleeve:Strong VG+/Strong VG++ plays GREAT!!
When it comes to Spanish cult figures within funk and music alike, Manuel Gas has to be considered one of the true front figures. Most of his material was either low budget releases for mayor labels (records that didn’t go far) or records for book clubs or record clubs. All records were the typical “play to death for a week and then throw away” records, but for today’s crowd all of them bear one thing in common – they have heavy drums and percussion, groovy moogs, and a heavy dose of thick bass lines that blow you away. On this LP Mr. Gas is joined not only by the legendary jazz saxophonist Pedro Itturalde, but also the superb percussion player Tito Duarte.
“CHACAL” is an all time fave with it’s lurking sound that smoothly, yet in a sinister way, sweeps upon you and leaves you breathlessly funktafied – LISTEN!!
“LUNA INDIA” is also a great dance floor workout with moogs and cheesy chorus lines. Has a killer sax (played by Pedro Itturalde) that kicks in during the solo – LISTEN!!!
“QUE SERA” is not as ultra cheesy as one might expect, but actually a pretty cool track with bits and pieces that could be used by the imaginative breakaholic - LISTEN!!!
“JERUSALEM” is a great soulful funk groover with female chorus and Manuel dropping a few lines as well – LISTEN!!!
"PLEASE NOTE!! - THE SOUND FILES ARE MP3´S (mono) AND SOUND WORSE THAN IN REAL LIFE... VERY COMPRESSED SO THAT THEY WILL BE EASIER FOR YOU TO DOWNLOAD.
