Description
Original and RARE 1970 single by Canadian psych rock band MARBLE HALL, "Marble Hall" b/w "Get Your Thing Together" on the Aquarius label. Some of these came with a picture sleeve, sadly, this isn't one of them, but then again, you don't listen to a picture sleeve, do you? "Marble Hall" is simply one of the best PURE psychedelic singles to ever come out of Canada, and that includes everything by Rush (just kidding). It's got everything we psych heads love - a groovy Eastern riff, sorta like a belly dancing theme inside a hookah tent, rumbling bass, massively echoed-out vocals, with otherworldly cries and moans seeping into the mix from some faroff dimension, and some trippy Rick Wright Pink Floyd style organ work. These guys had to pretenses of being anything other than psychedelic - there's no snotty punk garage sensibilities here, no gentle folk melodies, no polka rhythms - these Marble Hall kids are pure lysergia, pure synapse-melting psychedelia with a liquid slide backdrop. Now the flipside is a different story, where these Canadian longhairs do their best Indian war dance, predating Adam Ant by almost a full decade, and probably looking a lot less silly doing so. The vaguely titled "Get Your Thing Together" is a raw, pounding, take-no-prisoners slab of biker rock with a stomping dinosaur rhythm, rattlesnake tambourine, and raw growling and sneering vocals like the dudes from Blue Cheer after gargling with Drano for a weekend. And, of course, lyrics urging you to "get your thing together", which probably sounded like a good idea at the time. Pure psychedelia on one side, bludgeoning biker rock on the other - and all this from the country that gave us Bryan Adams? Almost makes up for it. Original 1970 pressing on the Aquarius label.
