Description

GROUP / RECORD Marc Brierley • Welcome To The Citadel
Orange Label Stereo Original 1st pressing 1968 UK  LABEL / LABELCODE  MATRIX NUMBERS  EXTRAS  GRADING  CBS 63478  S 63478 A1 & B1  Front Laminated Single Cover  VG(+)/EX+ DESCRIPTION Two years after the release of his EP, he reocrded his first LP. On 'Welcome To The Citadel' he sings and plays an acoustic guitar and is accompanied on the album by a full band, including a drummer and a bass player. Many of the songs are augmented by trumpet, violin or cello. Brierley had discovered his own voice as a writer and as a singer. Some people tell they prefer it to Nick Drake. Basically it’s odd, jazzy folk with memorable melodies and fluid, nimble acoustic guitar playing. A lovely, moody record!! CONDITIONS RECORD: Visually both sides have marks, although they are mostly superficial, seen in critical 100W light! The record plays much better (!) with only a few faintest clicks and pops, and occasional light surface noise. None of these detracts from or overwhelms the music!! At the end of the a1 track there are four little jumps, but they not really disturbing because it's the very end of the song! Otherwise it plays EXCELLENT++! Overall must be therefore grade as VERY GOOD (+) or better!! LABELS: Both labels in EXCELLENT+ condition with only minimal spindle marks. COVER: Fragile thin front only laminated. Rare in this condition, it is very flat with hardly a crease to be seen ANYWHERE! No tape. No splits. No stamps. No edge and spine wear! No ring wear - also on the unlaminated rear (with a little shop sticker)!! One harsh tear on the unlaminated back. Apart from that this wonderful cover must be grade as EXCELLENT+! SUMMARY A wonderful, seriously rare album! One of the best UK singer-songwriter releases of all time!!! See also article in RC 318, p.49 from 12/2005!! © 2006 www.recordcollector.org
