As was common with numerous U.S. albums by British Invasion acts of the era, Faithfull Forever was patched together from various odds and ends, rather than being conceived as an album unto itself.  There are some good songs here, like "Counting," "Tomorrow's Calling," and "With You in Mind",  plus some 1966 singles, songs that would show up on her 1967 U.K. LP Love in a Mist, and various leftovers. About half of these cuts, though, have never or not often appeared on reissues and compilations, and three songs somehow were never issued anywhere else (even in Britain). Those three aren't too remarkable, but for the record they're "Lucky Girl," the Norma Tanega-penned "I'm the Sky," and an orchestral-choir-smothered cover of Ewan MacColl's "The First Time," which is a different version than the one that appears on the North Country Maid album.

Before she became Mick Jagger's play thing, Maryanne was a viable folk singer, whose gentle, innocent voice graced some of the finest folk ballads of the mid-60's. As is the case with her previous two albums on London label, members of the Rolling Stones entourage are believed to have participated in creation of this album in one capacity or another (none of the Stones are credited on the cover). This was Marianne Faithfull's third - and final - studio album before she went into a 10-year self-imposed "exile" from a main street. She would not re-emerge until 1977, and she would not make a serious comeback album until 1979 classic "Broken English".

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)           The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 10:1.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY) .

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.  (nothing significant)

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
