MARKEVITCH / DIAGHILEV A MONTE-CARLO / SMS 5227/28
This beautiful gilt-embossed gatefold presentation pack entitled "Serge de Diaghilev a Monte Carlo" was issued by La Guilde Internationale Du Disque in 1972. The 2-LP discs (catalogue numbers SMS 5227/28) contain 5 ballets written by French composers for the Ballets Russes: Georges Auric – "Les Facheux"; Darius Milhaud – "Le Train Blue"; Francis Poulenc – "Les Biches"; Erik Satie – "Jack in the Box"; Henri Sauguet – "La Chatte". All the works are performed by the Choeur et Orchestre National de L’Opera de Monte-Carlo, conducted by Igor Markevitch. A separate 22-page stapled booklet (all text solely in French) has biographical notes on Diaghilev, the composers, ballets and fabulous historical photos including stage-sets, costume designs, dancers, etc.
The 2-LPs are near mint. The booklet is excellent with some age discolouration at edges. The thick card gatefold sleeve has some scuffing at edges/corners plus surface wear on rear.
