MARKO RUZDJAK
S/T LP
Yugoton
Rare original yugoslavian album by innovative composer Marko Ruzdjak, a nice assortment of avant-garde & electronic works.
Some info on the release: Rare original issue, released in the former-Yugoslavia sometime in the late 70's on the Yugoton label. Contemporary Croatian Composers Series (that released also works from Dubravko Detoni, Natko Devcic, Ruben Radica, Branimir Sakac, Boris Ulrich, Miroslav Miletic, etc.). Features excellent avant-garde works from pioneer composer Marko Ruzdjak.
Marko Ruždak (1946, Zagreb, Croatia) completed his clarinet and composition studies at the Zagreb Academy of Music, and then worked with Ivo Malec and Pierre Schaeffer (Paris), as well with Milko Kelemen (Cologne). Since 1979 he has been lecturing at the Zagreb Academy of Music, becoming full professor in its Department of Composition and Music Theory in 1991. His work is characterized by a rare delicacy of a language deeply grounded in reflective space. His choice of instruments and ensembles he composes for is exceptionally intriguing. He establishes the precision of tone perception in the beauty of formal thought. Never losing musical accuracy, he builds his compositions with a clear dramaturgic horizon characterized by a deeply moving intensity.
Ruzdjak is perhaps Cipra's only true successor, not because of any assumed stylistic features or aesthetic ideas but, rather, for the complexity with which both approach their own spiritual and historical background. He is a composer whose highly specific compositional aesthetic gives him a special, distinguished place in Croatian contemporary music. He describes the act of composition as akin to the gradual coming into sight and surfacing of individual islands in an archipelago. At the same time, he emphasises "training one's hearing" as a means of avoiding the repetition of readymade compositional clich?s. All musical parameters in his compositions are carefully weighed and organised within the whole. He devotes great attention to even the slightest changes in the material's appearance. A work's expressive charge is not the composer's own decision, rather the logical result of attentively listening to the material's expressive potential and of the very physiology of performance, the real limitations of voices and instruments. Mr. Ruzdjak has written solo, chamber, choral, vocal-instrumental and orchestral works. He often writes for specific performers, bearing in mind their particular interpretive abilities.
Condition: Vinyl lies in excellent- condition, looks super clean and plays with loud crackle at the beggining of each side (after that reproduction is nearly perfect), while cover lies in very good+ shape, with ring and age wear (see picture).Tracklist
