PROVENANCE

I purchased this album from HMV Oxford Street, and it has remained in my private collection for 45 years! I have kept the sleeve in reasonable condition, and the vinyl in near excellent condition, despite three house moves, all of which have been, and remain SMOKE FREE, PET FREE, AND CENTRALLY HEATED. As a result, the outer cover has no hint of mustiness. During this time, the album was initially played on a high-end Goldring deck, later supersceded by Linn LP12/Ittock; and finally an SME/SME Mk5. Suffice to say, the audio remains sublime.

ARTISTIC MERIT

Side one is produced by Marvin and Ed Townsend, side two by Marvin. Let’s Get It On was a landmark in the history of popular music, representing Marvin Gaye at the height of his creativity; a kaleidoscope of fantastic fantasy recordings, wonderful musicianship, and inspired vocals, plus with the famous period cover with Marvin’s (then) very controversial gatefold sleeve notes!

Being an original pressing by such a significant artist, this LP recording will surely continue to appreciate in value.
