My Record Grading Systems (Goldmine)
Mint or M: Looks never handled. No scuffs, scratches, blotches, or stains. No stickers, writing on sleeve or label. No wear to the cover or split seams. No ring wear.
Near Mint or NM: Almost mint. A very minor scuff is OK but not more than over a couple/few tracks. It plays without any noise over the scuff. Cover looks perfect with only minor signs of age/wear. Artwork is close to perfect.
Excellent EX or VG+: Minor scuffs barely visible. No more than a few. If scuff can be heard then it is a scratch (move down to next category). Cover is close to perfect but has minor ring wear but no ink wear. No seam or spine splits and no writing.
Very Good Plus: Vinyl shows wear, surface scuffs and light scratches. Great luster still with flaws noticeable to the eye. Appears handled but with care. Free of clicks, pops and noise when played. Cover is clean with minor wear to the seams or spine. Cover may have dog ear corners.
Very Good or VG: Well played with some luster still showing. Vinyl somewhat faded and appears to have been handled. Scratches and scuffs can be heard. Slight hiss in-between tracks. Cover has ring wear, snowy artwork and perhaps some writing (but hot large magic marker). Cover should still have some attractiveness to it.
Good: Looks played and handled. Have crackles, noise and loud pops or clicks. The record will still play to the buyer’s enjoyment. Covers are a mess; has tape, marker and worn artwork with ring wear.
Poor: Trash
