The first time I heard Matthew Sweet I was sure it was some 60s pop rock single I had inexplicably never heard, beautifully remastered. I found out later that he regularly uses instruments AND recording equipment of the period he obviously adores. His albums are perfect adopters of the sound and feel of the music. In light of that it doesn't seem at all surprising that he decided to do a covers albums from the time and happily, did so with the great Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles. They ended up releasing three albums. This set, by Demon Records, collects all three together on beautiful high quality color vinyl and with sumptuous custom inner sleeves and fantastically coordinated cover art. It is a genuine treasure. The covers are impeccable, listened to as easily as the originals we all know and love and with the certain subtle modern rock bump Sweet always offers. Irreplicable set.
