MAY STREET TOPS - selftitled, also known as
"Sold Out" / "A Nice Place To Live, But I Wouldn't Want To Play There"
1974 original pressing on Death Valley Records recorded at Galaxie III Studios in Taylorsville. These boys were the Almost Brothers, who began playing Allmans songs in Wilkesboro but soon decided to start writing their own jammy, uppity rock.
In my opinion, it's one of THE best rural rockers out there along with Afton and J Teal Band. But this is harder to find than both, being a micropressing of 300.
Jon Kirby's article written for the NC Arts website recently shed a bit of light on the band, as he talked to the two guitarists Don Story and Tom DeVoursney. DeVoursney left to follow Christianity and released a beautiful Xian folkrock LP called "Maskil" in 1978 (which will be listed soon!)
This LP came from a one owner private collection. Carefully stored away for 45 years until I obtained and recorded to digital.Vinyl is VG++ and the cover is VG++ as well. The record has sleeve hairlines. Very glossy. The labels are clean but do have some spindle wear, this record is very close to M- and was well taken care of. Cover has slight ring wear, top seam upper left has some light wear, NO SPLITS.
