Description
Legendary poet and author Maya Angelou, in her pre-literary days as a calypso singer in San Francisco. Miss Calypso was released in 1957 and was a minor hit before she went back to New York and became a writer. Many of her biggest fans don't know about this record... it is actually surprisingly wonderful. A great calypso album from that calypso-obsessed time in the late 50s, and many of the songs were written by Angelou herself. This rare original copy on Liberty LRP-3028 is in lovely condition. There are some visible scuffs but it plays just beautifully with only tiny crackle between songs. The cover has a seam split at the bottom which is taped, and another 2" split at the top, but otherwise is really a nice and strikingly beautiful cover. The front photo is nice and glossy and for the most part it is crisp and undamaged. Only minimal edgewear and a little discoloration on the back at the top, but really beautiful. A great original copy of this rarity.
