Description

Hi, my name is Brian and I have been collecting vinyl for many years.

On offer  is the most desirable DERAM album there is, so very rarely offered up for sale and I believe never before with an original promotional letter! This mega rare item with it's probably unique letter has come from a private collection belonging to a music journalist, who was often sent albums to be reviewed, along with other rare and pristine items I will also list soon including VERTIGO swirl label and RCA neon.

I am not and have never been a 'dealer' by profession, but I have always given honest descriptions and lots of clear photo's of any items I have sold. I do know how disappointing it is when you open that package and the item has been over sold with expressions such as "AWESOME" etc when the item is only in EX- condition or worse. If you are in anyway disappointed with an item from me you are most welcome to return it with a FULL REFUND, providing it is an honest and just mistake by myself as I believe in my descriptions.

SO HERE WE GO.......

ARTIST --MELLOW CANDLE

TITLE   --SWADDLING SONGS

LABEL --ORIGINAL UK DERAM

YEAR   --1972

CATALOGUE NUMBER -- SDL 7 (STEREO)

MATRIX NUMBERS -- SIDE 1.  ZAL -11141.P-1W     SIDE 2.   ZAL -11142.P-2W

SLEEVE.....GATEFOLD and UN-LAMINATED. This un-laminated sleeve is in superb condition. It is constructed of a medium weight card so it's a bit flimsy but it has stood up well considering it was not kept in a plastic cover until now. On the front there is no un-wanted writing, no sticker tears, no stains the white is very white and clean. The back has an impression of the vinyl but is NOT worn through with 'ring wear'. There are no seam splits and the spine is fully readable. The inner gate fold is as new very smart indeed. There is minor creasing to the spine and corners and some wear at the top and bottom of the spine. The top and bottom edges have minimal storage wear NO splits. There is minor corner tip wear. EX (comes with original lined inner sleeve)

LABELS.....There is NO unwanted writing, staining, stickers, residue or tears. There is NO spindle wear and only 1 spindle line/mark on either side The labels really do look fresh out of the shop NEW. N/MINT, N/MINT

PROMOTIONAL LETTER. this is a fabulous find tucked away in the sleeve for the last 40 years in lovely un-marked condition. N/MINT

VINYL....Both sides of this fantastic album still have their JUST PRESSED deep black shine. When you hold this album in the very brightest of lights you can see VERY FEW, VERY LIGHT surface hair lines which were caused by removal and replacement in and out of the inner sleeve, there are no nasty marks or scratches. In normal daylight this album is N/MINT. I have played this album on my very sensitive and revealing LINN SONDEK and the sound is UN-WORN, it is full and crisp there is NO loss of sound quality at all, wonderful sound stage and stereo seperation. There are NO dust crackles even in the quiet parts of the music or between tracks, These HEAVY VINYL origional pressings are second to none. This really is a great copy that any collector would be delighted to add to their collection, a real KEEPER . Visually EX+ and even better the audio is N/MINT, N/MINT. WONDERFUL!

From Dublin, Ireland, Mellow Candle specialised in imaginative psychedelic folk, with two excellent female singers. At the time they recorded their first 45, Clodagh Simonds was just 15, and 'Feeling High', despite being distributed by CBS failed to create much impact. The "SNB" label disappeared soon afterwards, and it wasn't until the 18th April 1971 that they signed to Decca's Deram label with a new bassist Frank Boylan from the Dublin beat group The Creatures and Glaswegian drummer William Murray also added to give a more solid rock sound.

The sheer quality of their performance on Swaddling Songs makes it perplexing that the band did't get more recognition at the time. Originals now command a price from £,500 upwards and it is the most expensive album on Deram. Less fragile than Trees and more mystical than Fairport, the sound is full of surprises and the songs are strong. Lyrically much revolves around loneliness, not in a self-pitying way, but rather accepted as one of the facts of life.
