Easily one of top-five greatest (and rarest) Mercury Living Presence ever issued, a marvel of sonic dynamics and resolution, this is one of those pieces that literally every classical collector wants to have, and for good reason. Listen, for example, to what what the Vintage Audio Traders’ Mercury Living Stereo Presence Page  has to say on this recording:

"HP's fave-rave. I know why too. Only an ' 8 'on the Jaeger  list, I rate it a ' 10 '.  Unreal dynamics. Ka-Booom!!! This is the real-deal. I use an SMEV/Grado TLZ Signature/Sota Star (Cosmos upgrades). I think you need a good rig to really appreciate this recording. This one WILL mistrack with most turntables. I would like to hear an FR 1/1 if it exists, to know if it's even more dynamic``.

What else needs to be said? The sound of this classic audiophile "Mercury Living Presence STEREO" LP is incredible and, nothing short of breathtaking. This classical masterpiece leaps from out of your speakers with such persuasiveness and authority that you will forever lose any desire to buy another CD. Under the watchful eye of Mercury’s engineers and producers, the Crew created one of the recording and engineering marvels of the 1950’s and 60's.

These recordings - mostly classical, but also a handful of pop and easy listening titles - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. Quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus had hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive woofer to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. This is the music for the ears, heart, mind and guts alike.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a slight warp along the bottom seam, affecting roughly 10% of the cover on both sides; ; this has absolutely no effect on the record.

-         The laminated front slick is just beginning to peel-off along the bottom seam (this can easily be re-glued if necessary)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the bottom seam and the spine

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  / bent  (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
