MFSL LP 1-253 Moody Blues To Our Children's... MINT V. The Moody Blues
To Our Children's Children's Children

Originally released on Threshold Records in 1969
1996 Mobile Fidelity Release

This album was the followup to the phenomenal and phenomenally successful “On the Threshold of a Dream.” It was also the first recording of the Moody Blues' newly-founded label Threshold, and the recording seemed to mark a kind of departure from not only the more accessible releases of their past, but of their growing dissatisfaction with their record company, the almighty Decca. Also, while the record did go gold, it did so in a leisurely fashion, prompting the band to take a new direction after this, that of recordings which were more easily reproduced on stage. The multi-tracked and multilayered soundscapes of For Our Children's Children's Children were very difficult to play properly live on stage.

Still, this characteristic was probably what drew the producers at Mobile Fidelity to the record. It is a very rich and lush-sounding record, one which takes you away. Many listeners describe it as the quintessential escape record. And, while it was not their best selling, it is amazing how many Moody Blues fans refer to this album as their favorite Moody Blues recording. It's 11 songs, atmospheric and ethereal, were ideally suited to the MoFi treatment:

Track/Title /Composer/Time
1/Higher and Higher /Edge/4:06
2/Eyes of a Child, Pt. 1/Lodge/3:23
3/Floating/Thomas/3:01
4 /Eyes of a Child, Pt. 2/Lodge/1:21
5/I Never Thought I'd Like to Be a Hundred/Hayward/1:05
6/Beyond/Edge/0:58
7/Out and In/Lodge, Pinder/5:48
8/Gypsy (Of a Strange and Distant Time)/Hayward/3:33
9/Eternity Road /Thomas/4:18
10/Candle of Life /Lodge/4:17
11/Sun Is Still Shining/Pinder/3:37
12/I Never Thought I'd Live to Be a Million/Hayward/0:33
13/Watching and Waiting/Hayward, Thomas/4:15

This particular recording, MFSL 1-253, was part of Mobile Fidelity’s ANADISQ 200 Series, which contained 65 commercially available releases limited to 5000 pressings each. The series featured numbered limited editions, 200 gram super quality virgin vinyl and special heavy-duty jackets with rice paper inner sleeves. All the Anadisq 200 releases were mastered at half-speed to allow every nuance of the master tapes to be accurately transferred to the vinyl.

In addition to the pressings being limited to 5000 copies, each pressing session was limited to 500 pressings per stamper to all but eliminate the effects of stamper wear on the final pressings. Mobile Fidelity’s obsessive and meticulous attention to detail as well as proprietary technological advances (such as its GAIN mastering system) and utter commitment to quality (by the time they manufactured the Anadisq series they owned their own pressing plant) are clear from the moment the stylus nestles in the groove. I love this “disclaimer,” which appears on every release:

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab does not “de-horn” metal parts in the plating process of our lacquers. To do so would cause loss in transients in the musical signal. There may be occasional pops or ticks in initial playing of the discs because of this. But, as the discs are played more, the playback stylus will polish the grooves and actually improve the sonics of your ANADISQ 200.”

This particular Moody Blues Anadisq recording is exceedingly rare. As an early promotional pre-release sent to a small number of writers, it is identical to the numbered recordings, but is blank in the space allotted for the limited edition number. It has never been sealed, and the disc has never been out of the jacket. It is in stunning, perfect and unplayed mint condition, carefully stored in archival mylar for a decade, untouched. I have sold dozens of these from my collection in recent months. Check my perfect feedback for comments from satisfied eBay winners, and bid with total confidence.
