Description
This auction is for Pink Floyd's album The Dark Side of the Moon released as a Limited Edition Original Master Recording by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. Stereo Recording. MFSL 1-017. First Japanese Pressing. Half-Speed Mastered from the original first-generation stereo master tapes.
With the possible exception of the Mobile Fidelity UHQR edition which sells at crazy prices, this is the best sounding edition of Dark Side of the Moon ever released, period. It blows away any of the "digitally remastered" CDs and LPs, allowing you to hear "into" the recording, to catch every background detail.
This pressing was made in Japan, using a half-speed mastering process and specially plated stampers, on heavy, thick premium virgin vinyl. With this mint audiophile edition, you will (finally!) hear every detail in the performances. This album is a must for every serious rock music listener, every serious audiophile, and anyone who just wants to hear just how good vinyl can sound.
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab uses an album’s master tape(s) combined with a unique procedure known as "half-speed" mastering, which literally slows down the cutting system involved in mastering the vinyl so that musical information can be transferred from the source tape to the lacquer with greater precision. This advanced mastering technique adds substantial refinements in the vinyl compound itself and improves methods of plating the lacquer. The result is a significant improvement in overall performance from the vinyl medium." The vinyl records are pressed on "High Definition Super Vinyl" by the Victor Company of Japan and are then packaged in "Special Static Free Dust Free" inner sleeves with the finest heavy-duty protective packaging.
Condition:
I am the original owner, and I am a recovering audiophile. I have always taken fastidious care of my records. This album is from my personal collection. It has been played carefully, always using a properly-adjusted tonearm and cartridge, and only after dry cleaning carefully with a carbon-fiber brush. Please bid with confidence, knowing that you are going to own a truly rare item in exceptionally good condition, sounding just as good as the sealed copies you've seen going for nearly $1,000.00, but at a much lower price. NO RESERVE.
Vinyl: Mint/NM/M- Will sound absolutely unplayed.
Cover: Glossy Gatefold Cover. VG/VG+. The cover is not as good as the vinyl. Edge wear, spine wear, partial split on bottom. Buy this one to actually listen to :)
Inner Sleeve: Mint Original Master Sleeve; Static-free plastic/rice paper inner sleeve.
Inside Protective Cardboard Sleeve: Mint original cardboard gatefold inner sleeve. Chock full of cool 1970's MFSL ads and text.
NOTE: I sold another copy of Dark Side of the Moon a week or two ago. This one has been played many fewer times than that one. I bought this one (in the mid-1980's) in honor of my new turntable, and it has been played only on that turntable ever since. You'll be glad to have this copy.
