The Mickey Finn were formed out of an East London R&B band called The Strangers, by Richard Brand and Micky Waller. The Strangers were active circa 1961, but after developing a liking for ska music Brand and Waller left to form Mickey Finn and The Blue Men, with the new name indicating their change to a more 'mod' sound.
Through their agent they got a deal with Blue Beat records and their first 45 Tom Hark led many to believe they were a Jamaican band. Their strong connection with the mod scene was also reflected in their next single, Pills, which was released at the same time as the police had, during a raid on a club, discovered some purple hearts stashed in Mickey Waller's amp. Subsequently Pills was banned. The track also features JIMMY PAGE, an old friend of the band on harmonica.
