MIKE ABSALOM - "MIKE ABSALOM"
1971
6360 053 VERTIGO
VERY RARE UK 1ST PRESS ON VERTIGO SWIRL LABELS
1Y1/2Y1 STAMPED MATRIX
IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND! TRY AND FIND ANOTHER ONE! ONE OF THE RAREST SWIRLS TO GET, THIS IS ALSO A FASCINATING LISTEN AND SUPERB CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL COMMENT ON DRUGS, POLICE INTIMIDATION AND CORRUPTION IN THE EARLY 70'S! GREAT LYRICS!
PLAYGRADED: not simply glanced at with a superficial visual grading, fully played and graded throughout (listened to on headphones - the most revealing playgrade method, with no exterior audio distractions)
OUTER SLEEVE:
Nice copy, fold-out poster sleeve designed and illustrated by Roger Dean. In good condition with wear to edges/corners, but looks very nice. Spine is quite worn and has been touched up, no text visible. Front cover has a small patch that has been 'restored', but difficult to spot and looks very well done. Near impossible to see this sleeve without major edge wear and spine wear. There are also a few discrete pin holes, has been used as a poster in its past. Still nice and intact however and looks great - try and find another one!
TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES:
Hardly any wear at all, has been touched up with black but actually looks pretty nice thanks to this.
OPENING EDGES:
Light feathering/thumbing to opening edges, still very nice.
VINYL:
6 3 6 0 0 5 3 1 Y // 1 4 2 0 1 1 2
6 3 6 0 0 5 3 2 Y // 1 4 2 0 1 1 1
NICE VINYL! ONLY A FEW VISIBLE MARKS UNDER NORMAL LIGHT!
Under direct halogen light there are several fine hairlines caused by removal from the inner sleeve and light wear and tear from a small amount of play over the years. Plays very nicely with hardly any background noise throughout most of the record (there is always some background rumble/hiss from vinyl). There are the occasional light few clicks, but way back in the music so not intrusive at all. Given the predominantly acoustic guitar tracks, it's incredible that it plays as well as this at all. Most were played at 'trippy' parties in the early seventies and ended up trashed, but this one has been pretty well looked after. Great copy and hard to beat. EX audio.
AUDIO:
Side 1:
1. SAGA OF JOHN THE BOG
Some light crackle on run in and behind initial acoustic guitar intro, pretty much covered as soon as bass and vocals kick in. A couple of light pops here and there. No sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps.
2. DON'T TELL IT ON THE TELEPHONE
Fairly quiet run in, some very light crackle, pretty much covered by song audio. No pops, no sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps.
3. LET ME GIVE YOU ROSES, ROSE
Some light crackle on run in and behind initial acoustic guitar intro, very faint clicks for a few revolutions. No sticks, no jumps, no loud pops.
4. OLD WOMAN IN THE MOON
Some light crackle on run in and behind acoustic guitar and vocal, there is no loud bass or drums to cover this background noise, but it is still not too obtrusive and does not spoil the audio. No pops, no sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps.
5. SAGA OF ERNIE PLUGG'S BUST
A couple of light pops in between tracks, not in the music. Some light crackle on run in and way back in the music, lovely bass tone and piano to help cover any background noise. No pops, no sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps. Light crackle on run out.
Side 2:
1. SAGA OF SUZIE GRAPEVINE AND PUSHER JOE
Some light crackle on run in and behind initial piano intro, pretty much covered as soon as bass, drums and vocals kick in. Once main piano starts it almost disappears, faintly audible on quieter sections. No pops, no sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps.
2. FRIGHTENED OF THE DARK
Some light crackle on run in and behind acoustic guitar intro. Better once bass starts. No pops, no sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps.
3. GAZA STRIPTEASE
Some light crackle on run in, covered by main audio with nice bass and piano. No pops, no sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps.
4. IT MUST BE SPRING
Some light crackle on run in and behind acoustic guitar and vocal, there is no loud bass or drums to cover this background noise, but it is still not too obtrusive and does not spoil the audio. Two audible pops. 5 very faint audible clicks in the middle of the track, then no problems for another minute, several more faint audible clicks for about 20 revolutions near the end of the track. No sticks, no jumps.
5. SAGA OF PEACHES MELBA AND THE HASH OFFICER
Some light crackle on run in and way back in the music. No pops, no sticks, no repetitive clicks, no jumps.
LABELS:
Original SWIRL labels with the large overall swirl on the A side and the classic design on the B side - large swirl above the spindle and 'VERTIGO' below the spindle. Only ever issued once and then immediately deleted due to very poor sales (a common theme with Vertigo artists it seems!). Great condition with thankfully NO graffiti. Does have quite a few light spindle traces on both sides.
INNER SLEEVE:
Original Swirl inner sleeve complete with the correct date code for the release - 0671 (June 1971). Hard to find these inner sleeves with swirl labels. Original poly lined sleeve is in nice condition, couple of minor seam splits but generally nice and intact.
POSTAGE AND PACKING:
I recycle as much existing material as possible and reuse record mailers if they are of good enough quality. Edges and corners are reinforced with packing tape. Stiffeners are used to strengthen and support the record.
Vinyl is removed from the outer gatefold to prevent any 'knifing' to the outer sleeve.
I ship in the UK using Royal Mail 2nd Class for items under £41 in value. A certificate of postage is obtained for every item. Signed for delivery is required for any item over £41 in value and costs an extra £0.70. If extra insurance is required up to £500 for shipping then a specific quote will be provided upon request.
Feedback is left for buyers once they have contacted me and left feedback stating they are happy with their purchase. Should there be any issues, please contact me first.
In the unlikely event you are unhappy with your purchase please contact me to return the item for a full refund. I will not accept disputes for partial refunds nor threats of negative feedback - these unacceptable forms of behaviour will be reported to eBay.
