Rare 1967 LP by Australian garage/beat/psychedelic pop band Mike Furber & The Bowery Boys. The Bowery Boys were formed in Brisbane in 1965. Lead singer Mike Furber, born in London in 1948, emigrated with his family to Australia in the '50s. In mid-’65 at around age 16, he met Paul Wade and Neville Peard on a train, and talked about music his love of singing. A friendship grew among them. Wade and Peard had already formed a garage band with Greg Walker and Robbie Van Delft that evolved into the Bowery Boys, and upon meeting Mike they invited him join as lead singer.

Flamboyant impresario Ivan Dayman spotted them and offered the young outfit recording and performing opportunities with his burgeoning Sunshine Records empire. Dayman saw Furber's "little boy lost" appeal to teenage girls, and so the group became Mike Furber & The Bowery Boys. "Just A Poor Boy" (the band's first and only album), achieved modest chart success. It opens with the bands' first three singles: the gritty group-composed title track, a tough, punkish stormer called "That’s When The Happiness Began", and a commanding cover of Graham Gouldman & the The Mockingbirds’ "You Stole My Love". . The moody, tuneful Merseybeat-ish beat ballad "You're Back Again" and the similar (but harder rocking) "Love Talk" are other standouts.

Vinyl: Very good
(has some very light surface marks, but has been play-tested on my quality stereo, and it plays much better than it looks - some minor pops and crackles, but otherwise great! Original owner's name written on Side 2 label)

Sleeve: Excellent
(has been covered with plastic, and taped on the inside; this has protected the sleeve from wear, so I would grade it as excellent; has only very minor wear on corners; otherwise very clean, smooth and glossy, especially considering its age!)
