Miles Davis -- Miles In The Sky LP

Original 1968 US stereo release on Columbia Records (catalog # CS 9628, red '360 Sound' labels w/ two eyes).

with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, Tony Williams, George Benson.

AMG Review: With the 1968 album Miles in the Sky, Miles Davis explicitly pushed his second great quintet away from conventional jazz, pushing them toward the jazz-rock hybrid that would later become known as fusion. Here, the music is still in its formative stages, and it's a little more earth-bound than you might expect, especially following on the heels of the shape-shifting, elusive Nefertiti. On Miles in the Sky, much of the rhythms are straightforward, picking up on the direct 4/4 beats of rock, and these are illuminated by Herbie Hancock's electric piano -- one of the very first sounds on the record, as a matter of fact -- and the guest appearance of guitarist George Benson on "Paraphernalia." All of these additions are tangible and identifiable, and they do result in intriguing music, but the form of the music itself is surprisingly direct, playing as extended grooves. This meanders considerable more than Nefertiti, even if it is significantly less elliptical in its form, because it's primarily four long jams. Intriguing, successful jams in many respects, but even with the notable additions of electric instruments, and with the deliberately noisy "Country Son," this is less visionary than its predecessor and feels like a transitional album -- and, like many transitional albums, it's intriguing and frustrating in equal measures.

Shipping And Payment Info

Records can be shipped worldwide via any method.
I will combine shipping. Winners of multiple items save substantially on shipping costs.

Within the US: shipping is $4.00 for Media Mail. Priority Mail is a recommended option, it's faster and more secure -- cost is reasonable and calculated based on your zip code. Shipping costs include delivery confirmation for all US orders.
Combine shipping with other items: The cost of each extra item is calculated automatically based on weight: if you want to add a record (7", 12", LP or double-LP) or CD to your order the cost is only between 25 cents and 75 cents per extra item depending on total weight.

Outside the US: shipping is calculated automatically based on your country and the weight of the record. IMPORTANT: Priority Mail International and Express Mail International are the only services which provide tracking. First Class Mail International is normally a very reliable service, but it does not provide tracking so if you choose First Class Mail International you agree not to hold me responsible in the unlikely event of loss or damage to the package -- please review my 11+ years of 12000+ positive feedbacks if you have any concerns, and contact me for more details.
Combine shipping with other items: If you want to add a normal-weight record (7", 12", or LP) or CD to your order the cost is reasonable, usually not more than $3.99 per extra item, often less, depending on total weight.

All records are packaged securely, protected by both stiff and cushion packaging, with vinyl (in original innersleeve) removed from cover and placed safely in poly sleeve to help prevent seam splitting during transit.

I can usually accommodate special shipping requests or special payment requirements, just ask.
