ORIGINAL UK CBS (SBPG 62510) FIRST *STEREO*PRESSING (May 1965) OF MILES DAVIS' "My Funny Valentine" LP - RECORDED LIVE IN CONCERT AT THE LINCON CENTER, NEW YORK, February 12, 1964.
Two albums were assembled from the concert recording. The up-tempo pieces were issued as Four & More, while My Funny Valentine consists of the slow and medium-tempo numbers.
Davis biographer Ian Carr notes that the former were "taken too fast and played scrappily", whilst the Funny Valentine pieces "were played with more depth and brilliance than Miles had achieved before." He goes on to laud the album as "one of the very greatest recordings of a live concert … The playing throughout the album is inspired, and Miles in particular reaches tremendous heights. Anyone who wanted to get a vivid idea of the trumpeter's development over the previous eight years or so should compare [earlier recordings of "My Funny Valentine" and "Stella by Starlight"] with the versions on this 1964 live recording."

LABELS: The labels are CLEAN, BRIGHT and UNMARKED with just ONE light spindle trace on Side One, none on Side Two - THIS COPY HAS CLEARLY HARDLY BEEN PLAYED
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces still retains their original DEEP, GLOSSY SHEEN and shine LIKE NEW with just some superficial light marks (no scratches) but these have practically NO audio consequence - the record plays beautifully throughout
VINYL Audio: Superb sound - DEEP, RICH, WARM and ATMOSPHERIC. On playback at a LOUD volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing) there are NO scratches, just a few minor light 'ticks' and one or two tiny patches of surface noise (most apparent between some (not all) of the tracks and on some (again, not all) of the quieter sections) but I am being very picky here as none of these are at all intrusive and the LP sounds really SENSATIONAL. There is however, a tiny amount of distortion on the piano solo at the end of "Stella by Starlight" but this is only in a couple of very, very brief, isolated spots and again, I would consider this very minor. Critically graded an EXCELLENT for audio (even with the aforementioned) as the LP as a whole sounds GREAT. (I have played through this copy several times this afternoon and the 'ticks' mentioned above seem to become less apparent each time and the 'distortion' is very brief and mild and in no way spoilt my listening pleasure - this is a really wonderful LP)
SLEEVE: The 1st issue FRONT LAMINATED, FLIPBACK sleeve is in lovely condition, structurally sound with a BEAUTIFUL DEEP GLOSS to the front laminate with very little rubbing and only a few light creases at the opening edge. The back is also remarkably CLEAN. The spine is UNWORN and displays all text CLEAR and BOLD and the top and bottom edges are similarly SHARP. Critically graded an EXCELLENT+
