IHRE KINDER
Germany - Kukuck Records
VERY RARE 1970 ORIGINAL 1973 first pressing vinyl in actual heavy denim cloth cover (like thick jeans)... in MINT...both the cloth cover and record are like new from 40 years ago!
IHRE KINDER can be placed at the roots of the so-called "Krautrock". They produced and published five main albums between 1969 and 1972.
The core of IHRE KINDER were the keyboarder and singer Sonny Hennig, the guitarist Ernst Schultz and the producer Jonas Porst. Their music combined influences from the American protest song, white blues (UK blues boom) music from England and - in a cautious way - the typical German electronic rock music of the early 70s to a progressive; a unique mixture to be sure.
The untitled album with the order number 2375 004 (often called "Jeans-Cover" because it was not packed in paper but in jeans cloth) is by most observers seen as the best record of Ihre Kinder and marks the peak in their public awareness. The album was most important at the evolving "Krautrock" scene. as mentioned above the album mixes a musical blend between American protest lyrics, white blues and carefully set elements of electronic rock and progressive, a mixture which had not been heard in this form in 1970 Germany.
In an excellent way the songs with all take up political and social problems of the time like overpopulation and anonymity ("Menschen wie Sand am Meer"), outsiders in the welfare state ("Straßenkind"), nuclear arms ("Toter Soldat") or drug abuse ("Weißer Schnee, Schwarze Nacht"). In the more than 6 and a half minute long "Toter Soldat" Ihre Kinder describe the perversity of warfare in a nuclear world and produce an oppressed atmosphere with distorted organ and electric guitar chords and drum rolls that lead into the nothingness of after a war. "Weißer Schnee, Schwarze Nacht" is in musical and lyrical terms the German predecessor to the Stones' "Sister Morphine" (not until a year later in 1971) and Neil Young's "The Needle and the Damage Done" ( not until 1972). An interesting album structured by organ and electric guitar, bass/vocs & drums...
Guitar, bass & vocalist Ernst Schulze had already released his own very rare solo album in '69 or '70 titled "Paranoia Picknic"
